Oleksandr Onyshchenko was born on March 31, 1969 in Matveev-Kurgan, Rostov region, Russia. In 1990 he graduated from the Kharkov Military School of Rear, qualifying as a military officer with an in-depth knowledge of German. From 2005 to 2008 he studied at the Institute of Economics and Business of National Transport University, specializing in Business Economics. Mr Onyshchenko’s career as a politician in Ukraine started in 2010, with his election to the Kiev regional council. In 2012, he would become important in national politics, being elected to the Parliament of Ukraine as one of the representatives from the Kiev oblast. In October 2014 in the special Parliamentary elections that were held he was re-elected to the Parliament of Ukraine.
From November 2014 until 2016 he was the deputy chairman of the Parliament Committee on Fuel and Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety. However, his political career would be cut short in the summer of 2016 after he was revealed to be an opposition supporter who was secretly helping opposition leader and Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and her “Fatherland” party. A politically-motivated charge of embezzlement was placed against him by then-President Poroshenko and Mr Onyshchenko had to flee the country. On February 6 2017, The German Higher Regional Court of Koblenz issued a decision which ruled out any criminality in the actions of Mr Onyshchenko. Most notably, the State of Ukraine did not give any evidence of Mr Onyshchenko’s involvement in criminal activity, and no definitive circumstances were shown. With Poroshenko being removed from power in the 2019 election, Mr Onyshchenko intends to return to Ukraine and help President Zelensky in fighting the corrupt structures put into place by the old the government.
Mr Onyshchenko became a professional show jumping rider in 2000, when he acquired a stud farm in Belgium. He was the president of the Equestrian Federation of Ukraine from 2002 to 2013. In 2008, he as the president of the Equestrian Federation presented the national team of Ukraine for the first time in the Olympics and competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics (jumping event), the 2012 Summer Olympics (jumping event), and the 2014 Show Jumping World Championships.
In 2013, he was listed among the richest men of Ukraine with a fortune of $65.2 million according to Focus Magazine. He has used this money for many charitable works. Mr Onyshchenko is the founder and director of “Top Ukraine”, a charity to promote "sport, fashion, art and culture in Ukraine".
The Asset Recovery Group
The Asset Recovery Group is a US-based NGO set up by Mr Oleksandr Onyshchenko which aims to recover the $5 billion that was embezzled by Former President Petro Poroshenko and his inner circle. Mr Onyshchenko has dedicated himself to exposing the corruption of the former government of Ukraine and fighting against any corruption that exists within the system as remnants of the old regime. His in-depth knowledge of the criminal systems that remain in the Ukrainian parliament makes him the most capable person to take on the role of fighting the hydra that is the corruption within the government.
